Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect in my first counselling session?
The first session typically involves discussing your reasons for seeking counselling, your personal history, and what you hope to achieve. This helps establish goals and builds rapport with your counsellor.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
Counselling can be beneficial if you are experiencing emotional distress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or life transitions. If you are unsure, a brief consultation can help determine if counselling suits your needs.
We offer a 15 minute free consultation to make sure our services fit your needs.
How long does each counselling session last?
Sessions generally last 50 minutes. Your counsellor will provide specific details based on the format of your sessions, and what might be needed based on the type of counselling you are receiving.
What if I don’t feel comfortable with my counsellor?
It is important to feel safe and supported. If you do not feel comfortable, consider discussing your concerns with your counsellor or seeking another professional better suited to your needs.
How often will I need to attend sessions?
The frequency depends on your individual situation, goals, and the therapist’s recommendations. Some clients attend weekly, while others may meet biweekly or monthly.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a key part of counselling except in cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law.
The Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) is Ontario's provincial law governing the collection, use, and disclosure of personal health information within the health sector.
As a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), I am also required to abide by the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
Can I attend counselling remotely?
We offer phone or video sessions, providing flexibility and access regardless of location.
What are the costs involved?
Our sessions cost $160/50 minute session. Check with your provider about whether your insurance covers counselling with a Registered Social Worker (RSW).
How do I prepare for my counselling sessions?
Prepare by thinking about what you want to discuss or work on. Being honest and open will help you get the most out of counselling.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
We require 24 hours notice for cancellations to avoid fees.
